Thread: Restore 'Sharing Options' menu
background:
oneiric 64-bit on amd64
tried set samba lan other ubuntu machines. process begins navigation folder want share, right-click, pick sharing options in context menu. if don't have samba, ubuntu offer install it. however, there many dependencies missing gui supposed come begin tweaking samba. gui loads , quits in split second.
search on forums , on web , a-l-m-o-s-t got samba working after installing pyneighborhood. there info out there out-of-date , advice use terminal in root mode. resulting file-permissions beyond repair. thought delete samba, reinstall , come pyneighborhood configure samba.
have lost context-menu 'sharing options' menu item.
link desktop sharing option
file/folder sharing options there way fix menu short of re-installing oneiric , not having re-install lot of custom-built software?
firstly, not install package called swat. of advice on samba configuration says install package. swat out-of-date , synaptic in description says swat can lock lan users out forever samba server.
restored context-menu 'sharing options' using synaptic, searching samba , noting package called 'natulius-share'. installed , package 'gadmin-samba'. synaptic wanted install 'menu'.
restored menu item sharing option out of order in comparison fresh-install oneiric after re-installed natilus-share. menu-item vital set-up of samba working network clients. vision of how samba interface oneiric.
because had glade, py-samba, gtk, system-config-samba installed due other advice trying samba going, gtk gui works should. fires logon user menu item 'samba', in background writes sudo (root) configuration changes.
so, confusion there. natilus menu item, label 'samba', fires gadmin-samba gui. samba , config file independent of gadmin-samba. samba lib, not gui.
i'll leave post open put thinking practice. (the rest of our computers cold @ moment.) i'll see if can share , if so, close link solved.
