Thread: 11.10 Encrypted LVM Move /boot To SD Card
greetings,
i'm moving on windows/truecrypt system. have installed 11.10 on encrypted lvm. during install, specified external usb drive /boot.
working great. problem have want move /boot sd card. usb drive hanging out , it's matter of time before destroyed...and i'd have copy of device boots computer. on old asus 1215n, sd card showed option during install 11.04 cd. new aspire timelinex doesn't show sd card being available.
how can copy usb /boot sd card?
thanks,
p
edit: well, typing on desktop trying stuff on laptop. got figured out.
did else searches this:
inserted sd card card reader, opened disk utility , formatted sd card ext2 , ticked bootable flag.
unmounted both sd card , usb drive mounted /boot.
did dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=/dev/sdc1
mounted /dev/sdc1 , did grub-install /dev/sdc
shut down, removed usb device, inserted sd card , booted using bios. boot menu appeared , booted passphrase entry screen. passphrase accepted , 11.10 booted.
linux cherry, major! lol. 1 question: need edit fstab? works, enough alone , that, fstab do? have done dd if=/dev/sdb , sdc, instead of sdb1 , sdc1? have done grub-install sdc1 instead of sdc? trying handle on how linux works.
thanks,
p
