i'm developing new joomla 3 website , appreciate development recommendations regarding joomla environment.

i have organization has several thousand organizational units. idea enable user select organizational unit , have associated user profile. display of organizational units i'm working sobipro. each user needs able through organizational unit directory , associate profile data such display of profile data shows of organizational units selected user. instead of duplicating data in both sobipro , user profile associate correct sobipro fields each user display , searching.

is there joomla extension make developing these relational fields easy?

it sounds kind of thing new custom fields in j3.7 might do, it's not clear @ moment how extend these custom fields fetch 3rd part component data (in select list). way tackle (and not right way) to:
create sobi pro plugin allow users of appropriate access level select categories sobi pro , have them added profile, , create user profile template override fetches these categories (from table might set in custom component) , displays them in profile. seems lot of trouble want achieve though, agree. (n addition that, sobi pro doesn't play other parts of joomla (and seems developers did deliberately) using bizarre xsl templating approach , convoluted category taxonomy instead of joomla's categories.
