Thread: Dual-boot failure: Ubuntu boots up with no prompt.
well, tried installing ubuntu 11.10 on mother's computer in hard drive format, , not work. boots ubuntu no options windows.
files still there, inaccessible.
when installing ubuntu, tried using partition system. got partitions working, drop-down box left unchecked, unsure did. oops.
now, have no idea on how ubuntu off computer , windows 7 working. system restore did nothing, f11 restore option unresponsive, , not read recovery disk. boots ubuntu absolutely no options allowed do.
tried reinstalling ubuntu, drop-down (root path, think) set partition ubuntu installed on. nothing.
tried command line call grub. no dice.
i've given up. there can reset computer out-of-the-box settings, , rid of ubuntu?
ran windows 7 disk repair , did nothing.
when install ubuntu own partition, overwrite mbr code defaults booting ubuntu. so, of course, not see menu other oss. how supposed work!
new menu, 1 containing entries other oss, open terminal in ubuntu , enter "sudo update-grub". force scan other oss. when watch run, should see "windows 7 (loader) on xxx". means found win7.
when reboot, should grub menu, including entry (or two) win7.
if pc came win7 preloaded, might see 2 entries -- , they're mislabeled. used whichever entry works.
