Thread: Zip makes files bigger?
a strange thing happens when try zip directory... right click - compress fails error, , command line "zip -r output.zip foldername" makes zip, in properties box, appears 16mb bigger original zip?!
there cases in can happen. can try other compression options, tar+gzip being sort of linux standard. tar+xz being newer version that's gaining lot of popularity. i'm fond of tar+lrzip, that's sort of uncommon. it's either
1) zip not handle large number of small files well, , that's have in directory, or
2) files incompressible, in case wouldn't expect have better luck using method.
3) suppose it's possible zip dereferencing symbolic links, replacing 1 copy of file 2 copies.
4) of multidunious things haven't thought of.
