Thread: Retrieving files from a corrupted USB stick

dear all,

trying retrieve files corrupted usb mass storage stick , use help.

let’s me explain issue. when plug usb stick windows or linux pc, key detected not formated while sure case case previously.

on ubuntu, in /dev directory on linux, can see /dev/sdb file no /dev/sdb1 entry. when tried mount manually device via following command “"sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb /media/", got following message:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
in cases useful info found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or
the output of dmesg mentions:
[ 2530.652525] fat: bogus logical sector size 65535
[ 2530.652533] vfs: can't find valid fat filesystem on dev sdb
i have copied whole memory image of usb stick via dd (sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=sdb.image) in order examine ghex editor , indeed appears 1st sector of stick erased , replaced “0xff” bytes (this explains why os not able mount automatically). however, remaining part of image seems intact.

question following: recommend me software recover files memory image?

in advance help.
