Thread: In Search of a video card to run 3 monitors
i'm curious know sort of video card should purchase power 3 (or possibly 4) 1920x1080 monitors. first instinct purchase new nvidia card, have had 0 troubles nvidia cards in dual monitor setup last few years.
quick research, discovered nvidia's twinview not work more 2 monitors. fine assuming can 1 twinview , 1 standalone monitor. in testing, unable twinview + 1 setup (when hooking same monitor machine twice 3rd screen): 2 screens decided turn off, , few times nvidia-settings froze.
other deciding factors in graphics card purchase:
1) new monitors hdmi only, can hdmi <-> dvi converter cables needed.
2) on ubuntu 10.04, , not upgrading until few months after 12.04 released.
3) i'm not gamer - need able power 3 monitors without latency. graphics application running adobe photoshop in vmware workstation (fullscreen on 1 screen). on other screens running programming tools.
4) sli possibility if need be. using msi big bang xpower motherboard , have sli bridge components.
current system specifications:
intel core i7 950 (3ghz), 24gb ddr3 ram, nvidia geforce 210 1gb.
status update / bump:
ended buying nvidia geforce 210 graphics card, , can 3 monitors working in ubuntu 10.04, without desktop compositing (compiz) in triple "separate x screen" setup. can twinview + "seperate x screen" setup, when in configuration gnome's panel doesn't work , windows span both monitors when maximized.
i've spent hours looking solutions, haven't found yet.
