Thread: Advice on installing on external USB HD

hello
have 64 bit version of windows 7 on hp laptop wanted dual boot found out there limit of 4 partitions can used. original windows , hp specific partitions totals 4 can't create new partition ubuntu 11.10...as understand it.

if case, interested in installing 11.10 on 500gig external usb hd. have usb flash drive 11.10 on , boots , allows me try out ubuntu.
when usb hd connected mounts out problems.
selected "install hd", first option on unity left column bar.
choices installation side side in dual boot, replace win 7 or other. selecting dual boot option installer gives me installation drive usb hd. far good. question is, if installed way grub2 install on internal hard drive , give option of os @ start up? if usb hd not connected, boot windows remain option?

if boot record put on external drive instead, windows boot if external drive missing?
don't want proceed until figure out how installation impacts windows.
have option of booting ubuntu when usb connected start up, , not interfere windows if external drive not connected @ startup.

if of makes sense suggestions big help.

for installation on external drive, apprehensive (scared) let ubuntu automatically.

select "other", set partition(s) how wanted, , make pay attention drop down list @ bottom of partitioning install screen put grub on mbr of usb drive.

when boot, might have press key during bios splash screen select usb boot drive, if set bios boot usb before hd computers. windows should boot when external drive not connected. business laptop has no free partitions.

note computers may have trouble booting far out on 500 gb external drive if have no trouble booting larger internal drive. have problem dell desktop 2010, though dell , toshiba laptops 2006 have no trouble booting same 500 gb usb drive. 64-bit ubuntu on 160 gb drive can boot of pc's or old hp athlon64 desktop 2004 (which cannot boot 500 gb usb drive). not drive ends different sd device (since uuid's used) or different video drivers (using defaults), other unknown issue dumps pc's grub rescue large external drives.

good morning you! since joomla! version still running on 3.7.5, trying update current version 23.8.1. tried, got white page due incompatibility 1 of extension (page builder pro). decided first upgrade extension, , trying again. tried update, received error message of dublicated tables. went phpmyadmin , deleted these tables manually. same error appeared again, when tried update part. extension. in order rid of extension, tried remove extension via extension manager. hit "remove" button, got logged out. while trying log admin, got message: you not have access administrator section of site. . yes, changed _user table in phpmyadmin, , checked configuration.php, i'm still not able lock admin. however, checked , browsed internet solution, couldn't find hint, excepted, had similar issue , asked post output of "forum assistant". have no idea if narrow problem, @ least gotta try! of appreciated! thank in advance! part i: forum post assistant (v1.3.5) : 2nd november ...
