Thread: Password change causes total lockout (11.10)


hello all,

@ weekend wanted change password i'd had disclose colleague. having been unable in gui, ran passwd %username% in terminal, put in password twice on request (it slow in asking), computer crashed, no cursor, no mouse, no <ctrl><alt><f1>. nada.

after reboot able login , change password , machine not let me sudo. morning, login screen accepts password after few seconds returns me login screen.

when boot recovery , try change password 'authentication token manipulation error – password not changed’. computer’s primary/only user , home directory encrypted, last full backup on month old (stupid know) , worryingly took minutes @ important agm meeting not yet distributed.

details in /etc/passwd , /etc/shadow distinct i’ve been warned against manually editing these. there thing can or need reconvene agm?
