Upgrade php from 5.6 to 7.1 on VPS - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i installed php 7.1 on vps running easy apache 4, installed using yum install via ssh , went fine , see php7.1 in cpanel. however, when switched site using 5.6 use 7.1 broke site. switching 5.6 , , running. did because i've rebuilt same site locally using mamp php set there 7.1.

i'm planning on creating subdomain on server , loading new site, once it's working want push live , keep running live site , staging site on server test updates, etc, obvious reasons.

is there else need prepare live site, current site, change - , possible activate php 7.1 on current server/site , not have break? know can run different php version on staging site, there else need prepare switch new site staging live using php 7.1?

a quick update on posted above, went ahead , created subdomain , fine , live site fine (the 5.6 site), when went cpanel , changed subdomain site use php7.1, live site on 5.6 went down 500 error. subdomain listed in "inherit" it's php version, checked box , selected 7.1 , switched still said live site using 5.6, live site down.

right i'm reverting snapshot fix this, assistance on how without messing live site i'd appreciate.
