Thread: 11.04 networking broke after reboot

this seems kind of difficult problem. i'm not novice user i'm not sure go here.

computer locked , given time constraints seemed easier power cycle machine hope wait out.

it's come back, networking isn't working. if boot live cd *does* work, i'm pretty sure it's pertaining os.

machine has static ip, , settings on seem good. when try ping localhost or machine's ip both work fine. when try ping farther (even gateway ip), drop packets.

tried /etc/init.d/networking restart , got deprecated message, got "ignoring unknown interface eth0=eth0" haven't seen before, don't know if part of problem or new way of doing things haven't run since i've been running 11.04.

after searching decided try doing reinstall of kernel via:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-kernel-generic

wasn't helpful.

or next steps!

sounds eth0 hasnt been defined.

post results /etc/network/interface , ifconfig
using nm applet or manual config of files set ip?
