Thread: Running Ubuntu from HDD - Won't boot

hi,

i've installed ubuntu 10.04 on external hard drive, not boot ubuntu when start computer hard drive plugged in, starts windows instead, have installed on computer. have changed bios settings make hdd second highest priority (second live cd, can run cd if need to) hasn't worked. can provide specs of either computer or hdd if needed.

if can appreciate it,
thanks.

welcome forum!

sounds grub misconfiguration in external drive. if so, fixed, first need overview of system.

boot live ubuntu cd external drive plugged in , switched on. choose 'try ubuntu' live desktop, ensure connected internet, , go site:

http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/

download , run boot info script - instructions on page - , post contents of results.txt file between
,
tags clarity. simplest way of doing highlight output , click on button in message toolbar.
