Thread: "Some index files failed to download"

okay have hp pavilion dv5. , installed ubuntu 10.04 upgraded 11.10. after upgrade sound laptop speakers scratchy! went online fix added file software manager. , keep getting error when upgrading. confused! need gedit. tried run command (
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base) , nothing ever shows up!!!! help

okay sound on laptop went bad. added ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa system's software sources. did sudo apt-get update , this.
