Thread: Boot loader broken. Error
hi,
on notebook i've had multi-boot setup accessible through couple of boot menus @ startup.
i've installed ubuntu 11.10 on external usb hard drive. used notebook installation.
during installation process ensured "device boot loader installation:" set external drive.
so, have bootloader on external drive it's taken on loading process both , multiple oss on notebook , has disabled independent booting of notebook.
can't boot notebook unless external drive attached. if isn't get:
"error: no such device:... grub rescue>"
there easy way fix please?
it helpful if list oss on internal , external hdd.
looks installed bootloader internal hdd after all. , because config files on ext hdd, can't boot without it.
boot main ubuntu (if have it) int hdd (having ext hdd attached if needed) , execute:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
install grub booted system onto mbr of /dev/sda.
unless have wubi install, because "could of menus on startup". there 1 bootloader, there no couple of menus.
if have kind of "special" setup careful before running commands don't take account specific setups.
