Thread: Bug? Able to change filename on a-w files of another user

hi

have setup nas running ubuntu server 11.10 3 drive array.

have dropbox folder users can dump things "published" on nas. plan set perms of directory +w every 24 hours ill set perm -w .../nas/* chown root.

when set these perms can still rename files. correctly unable delete or move files.

happens both locally , via samba.

bug? seams security risk trying write protect files , 1 can come , rename everything.

on side note answer why can set file u+rx-w , still able delete if owner?

all

halitus

i believe answer operations you're performing happening @ directory level. permissions on directory contains file? created test file in directory owned u+w permissions. applied u-w directory. couldn't rename file though own , have write permissions it.
