Thread: Ubuntu/Samba not showing in Win7 Network Places, but accesable via \\server\sharename
i'm running ubuntu server 11.04, , samba. i'm trying samba browsable/discoverable via windows 7's equivalent of network places/network neighborhood.
can access server opening \\192.168.0.1\share or \\servername\share, not discoverable under network places.
reason have media players (wd tv live one) doesn't see shares, used when server showed under network places.
server in question standalone server. no domains/authentication etc.
samba config file:
code:#======================= global settings ======================= [global] security = user encrypt passwords = true map guest = bad user guest account = nobody netbios name = server log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m load printers = no passwd chat = *enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* . # obey pam restrictions = yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passdb backend = tdbsam dns proxy = yes server string = server unix password sync = yes workgroup = workgroup os level = 20 # auto services = global # syslog = 0 preferred master = yes panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d max log size = 1000 pam password change = yes # usershare allow guests = yes wins support = yes local master = yes preferred master = yes name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast # interfaces = eth0 eth1 # bind interfaces = yes so_rcvbuf=8192 so_sndbuf=8192 socket options = tcp_nodelay #======================= share definitions ======================= [public] comment = public share path = /srv browseable = yes read = yes guest ok = yes
