Thread: Macbook air question, recovery partition.
i'm thinking of getting new 4.2(?) macbook air , installing ubuntu 11.10. purpose of simplicity i'd single boot ubuntu. read on wiki keeping os x around useful firmware upgrades etc... question is: new macbook air's , recovery partition, can't wipe drive (except recovery partition) , install ubuntu , whenever might need os x upgrade, recover (i store work on dropbox, reinstall isn't bad).
guess i'm asking after installing single-boot efi install of ubuntu can still lion recovery command-r. or use lion recovery create usb drive well?
thanks!
hi there! refit detects repair partition in lion don't need command + r in experience. said, i'd yes, if apple don't give install dvd, should create install image osx - either dl dvd, or 8gb usb stick , stick in cupboard - you've paid os (admittadly lion 1 of cheapest os's of time - paid less £30 upgrade!) it's yours, why not make sure have copy incase want install later, or hard drive dies etc?
unless you're short on hard drive space, i'd keep osx on there - os in opinion, not new average user in lion on sl or leopard (i forgot osx changed until booted tiger based server!) yes, if don't need space can shrink default install down 25gb (allows room updates) , ignore until want it. if need space, of course rid of - make sure you've got installation media handy!
