Why does Lightroom change the file creation date? (Mac OS)

i'm finding lightroom changes file creation date when embedding metadata. notice behaviour differs bridge, manages write metadata changes file without affecting creation date, touching modified date.

 

i've read in other threads doesn't matter anyway because moving files between disks write new file , therefore new creation date, while may true in systems (i don’t know) not case mac os. example, have files going @ least 1998 have been moved disk disk disk yet still retain original creation date. should be. many of older images there seems no recognisable embedded capture date anyway, file creation date time stamp.

 

it seems logical modified date of file should updated reflect file has been modified (e.g. though adding metadata), seems equally logical file creation date should retained original date file created. changing them both same date seems needless loss of information.

 

some might argue process of adding metadata file creates new file, therefore creation date needs updated reflect that. creation date should normal user understand creation date. don't expect creation date changed because file rewritten disk (for instance when defragging), technically accurate might newly created file. , difference in behaviour between bridge , lightroom shows there confusion this.

i started using lr5 add metadata older jpeg files , noticed same behavior describe. agree file creation date more appropriate leave alone, , lr5 shouldn't it's doing. concede, however, on years many of file creation dates have gotten corrupted various reasons on macs, file creation date has been of dubious nature.  therefore resorted renaming image files capture date included.  nevertheless, matter of principle, seem creation date , modification dates should serve different purposes, , if edit kind of file, modification date should reflect change. bridge gets right. that's good. have phase one's latest version of media pro, , gets right...ie. annotating jpeg files embeds new metadata , changes modification date not creation date. worry lr5 behavior i've read lr doesn't recompress jpeg image data when saving metadata, stomping on creation date give 1 pause worry.
