Thread: Pre-configure Live CD for Link-Local Only Addresses

this first post, if repeat, please forgive me have searched forums , cannot find answer anywhere else.

issue i'm having seems simple:
in line of work, perform data transfers customers. times, unable perform these transfers because of corrupt os or weird ethernet driver issue prevents machines communicating each other. normally, work around issue sledding hard drive, legal reasons (i.e. - lack of hardware certification), company not allow pull drives. have, however, agreed let me use linux live cd means of working around these issues perform transfer.

problem comes when transferring mac computers. seems linux's implementation of dhcp not assign link local addresses (169.254.x.x) when connected directly mac via ethernet. ask them provide router, waiting them take ages. if go "edit network connections" dialog in gnome, under "ipv4 settings", can configure "auto eth0" assign link local addresses only, needs done every time use cd.

so, make long story short - kow how can pre-configure live image assign link local addresses? first thought image flash drive, boot , configure ethernet port, make image of flash drive , burn cd, if image flash drive live cd image, flash drive have read-only filesystem?

on matter appreciated.

a copied disk image/iso flash drive able modified not read only-see this guide. , pertinent sentence one:
also, can configure ubuntu on usb flash drive save changes make, unlike read-only cd-rom drive.
