i want apologise using time if thread regarding problem has been posted. i've tried using both usb installer , unebootin install linux ubuntu 11.10 laptop no success. i've tried 2 different usb models. keep getting error messages whilst trying anything. when try boot usb error messages reads " sorry program "ubiquity" closed unexpecdlty" when try install directly hardive error message read "the installer encounted unrecoverable error, desktop seesion run may investigate" shows blank pink screen. ive tried downloading ubuntu 11.10 twice on different windows based laptops directly ubuntu.com. wanted ubuntu because looks , i've been told it's not different windows operating systems. laptop 4 years old, has 1.8ghz amd processor, 1gb of ram, 128mb vram , 40gb hdd. know hard drive ok because i've used linux puppy , transferred hard drive able boot without usb. i've tried using dban wipe hard drive clean in case pup...

hello world, main purpose: build filesystem splitted in different files. able build filesystem this, found limit unfortunately: a=0;while [ $a -lt 8 ]; dd if=/dev/zero of=disk$a bs=1m count=100; let a=a+1; done a=0;while [ $a -lt 8 ]; sudo losetup /dev/loop$a disk$a; let a=a+1; done in way create 8 100m files , mount loop after that, can create raid0 (by mdadm) of all: sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=0 /dev/loop0 /dev/loop1 .............. , can format , mount device /dev/md0 anyway, limit loopdevice, because it's possible have @ least 8 lodevice. there way have filesystem splitted in different "piecies"? (with or without lodevices...) there's no problem using mdadm or lvm or somethingelse... want single filesystem on multiple files (filesize not important...) please, let me know if have idea... noone? difficult? ...

hi, on notebook i've had multi-boot setup accessible through couple of boot menus @ startup. i've installed ubuntu 11.10 on external usb hard drive. used notebook installation. during installation process ensured "device boot loader installation:" set external drive. so, have bootloader on external drive it's taken on loading process both , multiple oss on notebook , has disabled independent booting of notebook. can't boot notebook unless external drive attached. if isn't get: "error: no such device:... grub rescue>" there easy way fix please? it helpful if list oss on internal , external hdd. looks installed bootloader internal hdd after all. , because config files on ext hdd, can't boot without it. boot main ubuntu (if have it) int hdd (having ext hdd attached if needed) , execute: sudo grub-install /dev/sda install grub booted system onto mb...

i have used lot of distributions, lot of people i've started ubuntu , praticly learned him... there still don't understand... use arch linux while, still have ubuntu @ canonical's work newer versions of ubuntu.. have quit ubuntu 3 reasons: bloat unupdated ppa... ppa still see lot of ubuntu posts everywhere, people happy whit it, windows , mac users made switch , happy (what makes me happy seing people using ubuntu). developer (a young 1 still developper), , i've choosen arch linux on ubuntu updated packages more easy without using kind of ppa. question is... developper (game or software) me don't want sell them have them working on maximum os available out there, why choose distribution ubuntu on distribution fedore, debian , arch linux. ps : not saying ubuntu horrible or "i love ubuntu more arch linux because first 1 , i'll never forget it, still use on laptop everyday use", asking developers understan...
