Thread: xorg.conf - how do i sort out devices, screens, and monitors?

i have laptop pair of ati gpu's in - 6970m mxm cards. i'm running 11.04 , cannot detect second card unless in crossfire mode flaky (drivers likley, computational errors occur in second gpu). when fglrx intitially configures xorg.conf aticonfig --adapter=all -f --initial, creates separate sections each device, creates monitor each device, , screen each device. problem is, there's 1 monitor - lvds panel on laptop. when default configuration launched, x not start 2 devices apparently fight on 1 gets panel. if disable second screen, can start x, applications see 1 gpu (clinfo etc). how can map both devices 1 screen, or how can x understand second gpu exist, not mapped output?
