Thread: Mdadm periodic redundancy checks
it seems mdadm schedules periodic redundancy checks of md devices.
every , then, when observe lights on external hd array flashing, check find mdadm running check.
[=========>...........] check = 45.3% (664706816/1465138496) finish=403.6min speed=33049k/sec
not resync or recovery failure check. searching found there cronjob starts first sunday of every month executes redundancy check. video server write , remove files, grow array , use lvm2.
need this, or @ least schedule 90-180 check. found fsck runs also, shut system down @ least once week couple of days while working, save on power usage. increased values believe on how fsck runs after shutdown/reboots , haven't seen run while. plus easy spot when truned on server. need run fsck on raid5 array?
during these checks, have found losing video files (from 5-10 iso's 4-5gb sizes) having no problems far viewing jsut disappear meta data remains.
recover loading dvd , ripping again, it's pia find dvd in library. (not organized video server, why have video server) not metnion not know file put on raid5. (using space freed loss of file begin with)
also, when run df -h after losing 32gb of video files, still displays available free space if files still there.
here cronjob chacks first sunday of month. replace done every 6 months?
or need it, if having problem wouldn't report error , remove drive array?
cat /etc/cron.d/mdadm
# default, run @ 01:06 on every sunday, nothing unless day of
# month less or equal 7. thus, run on first sunday of
# each month. crontab(5) sucks, unfortunately, in regard; therefore this
# hack (see #380425).
6 1 * * 0 root [ -x /usr/share/mdadm/checkarray ] && [ $(date +\%d) -le 7 ] && /usr/share/mdadm/checkarray --cron --a
ll --quiet
i have similar thing runs on raid array. it's set "verify" every 28th of month. takes around 12+ hours complete, find invaluable has found bad sectors on drives in array.
that's strange losing files during check. don't use mdadm, maybe else can out?
