Thread: RAM upgrade causing issues - uncompression error, system halted

so first off have gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r motherboard, 4gb of corsair (2 x 2gb) xms2 ddr2 800mhz ram

needed @ least 8, checked motherboard specs , allows 8gb ddr2. brought new ram, (brought 16gb (8x2gb, 2 machines, going move current 4gb machine).

anyways long story short cant machine working 4gb. either wont post, or past grub , tells me 'uncompression error, system halted', or infinitely (left 45 minutes) sit , blink cursor top left (and in recovery mode gets 'freeing initrd memory').

brought ram machine have lots spare try, , matched. suspect 1 set dud thats 1 when wont post. have tried various sets in various slots, , comes down works 4gb (any set, except suspected dud), cant working 8gb (however post)

ideas? pulling hair out!

anyone? seems odd posts wont boot ubuntu , have done added more ram

take ram out , works again
