Thread: Failed ubuntu install


first , foremost apologize if has been posted. have searched , not find same issue , resolution.

have tried install ubuntu 11.10 64 bit, both dual boot windows 7 64 bit, , without. during install outside of windows "vdevd[109]:timeout:killing 'sbin/mod probe -bv pci:" followed string of numbers. after time of these messages streaming down screen "udevadm settle - timeout 120 sec sys/devices/pci (followed numbers)" , "020/backlight/acpi-video (1346)".

have had success while installing within windows, still upon reboot/booting ubuntu greeted blinking cursor , nothing past that. have tried adding "nouveau.blacklist=1" install (per thread), still cannot past blinking cursor.

machine specs

mb - asus maximus iv gene-z z68
video - evga gtx570hd
hdd - seagate 1tb 7200k
ram - kingston hyperx blu ddr3 1333 4x4g
cpu - core i7 2600k

did burn iso cd , boot that, or installing usb flash drive?

can run livecd?

wrong, "nomodeset" seems more popular nouveau.blacklist.

there 2 articles in ubuntu community documentation might you. first describes common problems cd, , called bootfromcd, unlikely in case. second describes using boot options handle quirks hardware, , called bootoptions. have seen, 1 or other of them solves @ least 90% of problems.
