does happen in other software applications?

it sounds if repeat key interval that's set in system preferences might have been changed short time. however, if nobody has changed setting, possibility connection between keys , computer faulty. keyboard that's been spilled upon, loose or defective keyboard cable or cable connections. if mouse pointing affected, if mouse connected through keyboard, faulty keyboard cable cause, if mouse connected directly computer, perhaps mouse cable or connections defective. if keyboard and/or mouse wireless, perhaps batteries need replacing or recharging.
