Thread: again - lost wifi after running updates - how to prevent this?

hello,

run ubuntu 11.10 on msi wind u100. last upgrade broke wifi, compiling driver myself solved (ralink rt2860).
ran usual updates , lost wifi again (lshw -> network unclaimed).
im not newbie, in area dont understand much, wud glad assistance in understanding goes wrong each time, , how can prevent happening often..

thank you,
bb.

it because have use wifi driver outside of normal kernel-supported driver set, i. linux kernel intends use rt2800pci driver, driver not work us. so, every time kernel updated, have recompile , reinstall rt2860 driver.

far know, there no way prevent this. maybe someday, kernel support our (very common) chipset driver works it.

tim
