Thread: Recovering folder from (damaged?) file system

hopefully, title of question isn't misleading in way. let me tell entire predicament, , maybe guys can better me.

past month or ubuntu (run 11.04) extremely slow after short amount of time. i'd log in , start surfing web, , slow crawl , freeze up. nothing ever crashed, , if waited long enough resume without problems. found restarting system (if able to) fix problem session, if booted again continue on next boot. coincidence seemed happen after 11.10 upgrade message pop up. so, 1 day popped , decided upgrade. end of world. installer must have crashed because computer turned off , grub boot stage 1.5 error 24.

friend of mine burned 11.10 live cd me , went in trying fix problem. found hard drive showing "314 gb file system" , unable mounted. decided complete reinstall, after not finding real way fix problem. installer recognized 11.04, , offered upgrade 11.10. took shot , tried it, installer crashed before start, lo , behold file system mounted , able go in , recover of files. problem comes in.

1 folder want, out of of them, unable copied, read, or moved.

error message:
code:
you not have permissions necessary view contents of "youtube rips".
this location, can see, ubuntu treating file system if simple usb drive:

code:
/media/4ce65329-f09b-4aa4-8b68-d8e3eeab3b43/home/dantman78/videos/bmov/youtube rips
the installer doesn't recognize 11.04 anymore, , when boot, no more error 24, unable find (can't recall right now) something/root.

so, question is: there way can recover folder, or lost cause?
sorry, wrote entire life story here, gives gist of situation. can see, i'm no expert means, if of can steer me in right direction, lot.

from live cd need use
code:
sudo cp /media/4ce65329-f09b-4aa4-8b68-d8e3eeab3b43/home/dantman78/videos/bmov/youtube\ rips/* /media/<destination>
you need \ in youtube\ rips escape space, , need show destination folder correctly well. need root sudo.

alternatively can use nautilus root
code:
gksu nautilus
and drag , drop normal.
