Thread: Grep, invalid argument

i'm encountering same behavour grep , folders. strange: seems connected home directory encryption.

when run

code:

grep somthingtosearch /tmp

grep doesn't return (and expected because there nothing find).

code:

grep somthingtosearch /home/user

...returns:

code:

grep: /home/user: invalid argument

note "user" user name of user logged in , folder enrypted usign ubuntu's default method of home directory encryption. , error message seems connected encryption. on ubuntu machine without home folder encryption grep isn't returning error.
