Thread: Distros still using Gnome 2?
im looking forward mint 12. tried rc1 , little buggy on system, pretty cool looking. , feel of it. cant fan of gnome3 or unity, new panel @ bottom can @ least switch between tasks opposed apps. need traditional menu because have more apps can memorize , dont know looking for. tabs , hate switching between apps when not using smart phone. mint 12 fixes that, im looking forward.
however, while think mint has done great things gnome shell, dont accept these changes necessary. nothing better gnome2. not windows, not osx,not kde, not android.....this opinion, not uncommon one. gnome close perfection.
mint debian has been alternative, move gnome3 new mint panel...its not terrible. little things lack of jockey, having memorize commands without being able copy them (because logged out of x) kind of sucks less geeky among us.
fusion, based on fedora, has forked gnome2 , looks awesome. uses compiz , has neat features have never seen before. looks awesome, snappy , responsive, , there great yet not overwhelming collection of default apps. more apps average, not excessive, pretty thought out, , snappier ubuntu. also, software center got major overhaul , works synaptic. still give edge synaptic, smaller margin before. huge improvement in 14.1 compared 14. fusion has stepped game, though in x32. pae kernels showing improvement though , allow use more ram. not deal breaker me long pea can installed.
hear arch has forked gnome, , call mate think. gnome including mate alternative fallback mode. guess necessary fork resolve dependency issues. sounds great have both better gnome 3 genuine gnome 2.
ive been playing xfce. xfce since 4.8 , think gnome2 , snappier.....only think xubuntu poor implenetation of xfce on gnome base , sloow. tried on mint debian, sabayon, pclos, crunchbang, , lightning fast , response, when loaded.
im going put fusion os 14.1 on older laptop (2008, not old), mint 12 on newer computer, , either crunchbang or liquid lemur or macpup on old old computer. or maybe turn server.
im interested in knowing other distros still using gnome2, or fork of gnome 2. can else add list?
