so, first of all, want let know have been using windows run chess apps, , various linux distros other tasks. it's been several years now. lately, while doing cse major, decided try out *bsd. of course, freebsd came mind first. pc-bsd bloated , uses kde out of question. went download freebsd site, , saw have 9.0 rc3, not stable 9.0 release. question is, if download , install rc able update stable release? if how? or should perhaps wait few more weeks , let them release 9.0-stable, if update task tedious? ps: freebsd have lxde? or @ least xfce? thanks! yes can upgrade release 1 of development branches. instructions read http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/current-stable.html , have grab sources stable , rebuild both world , kernel. , yes, freebsd has lxde , xfce (slightly crippled udev), if ever want check software available freebsd consult freshports.org ...
